CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) is an American commercial broadcast television network. Established on September 18, 1927 as a radio broadcasting network, CBS as a television network made its first broadcast on July 1, 1941.
CBS was part of the original Viacom conglomerate, which also included companies such as Nickelodeon. CBS Corporation (formerly The Westinghouse Electric Corporation) was acquired by Viacom in 2000 as part of a deal that was announced the previous year. In 2005, Viacom split into two new companies named Viacom and CBS Corporation. The companies re-merged in 2019, becoming ViacomCBS. On February 16, 2022, ViacomCBS was rebranded as Paramount Global.
