Overview

Cabin Fever is the first segment from the eighth episode of the first season of Garfield and Friends.

Synopsis[]

Jon, Garfield, and Odie take a weekend trip to a cabin in the mountains, only to get snowed in while Jon is out to get groceries.

Plot[]

On a winter day, Jon drives Garfield and Odie to a cabin in the mountains he loaned from his friends for a vacation. Although Jon and Odie are excited, Garfield is not thrilled due to the cold and isolation. At one point, Garfield asks Odie why he is not waving his tongue out the window, since dogs are said to love it under ordinary circumstances. When Odie refuses, Garfield tries it and gets covered in snow.

Once at the cabin, Garfield complains about the surroundings while Jon and Odie seem fond of those. Apart from the lack of television and sauna, he finds lack of proper sanitation disturbing. Later on, Garfield discoveres that there is no food in the area. Therefore, he prompts Jon to go to the market down the hill. After picking up a large amount of groceries, the cashier says he understands due to the approaching blizzard. Hearing about the blizzard, Jon races out of the market to hurry back, initially forgetting to pay for the groceries. Back at the cabin, Garfield is playing checkers with himself when Odie notifies him about the blizzard. Fearing they might get snowed in, Garfield rushes to the door and opens it. He finds the doorway filled with snow, which pins him down. Hopefully, Odie saves Garfield from freezing.

Meanwhile, on the road, Jon finds that all the roads have been closed due to the blizzard. A ranger stops him and states, that the road is closed. When Jon mentions having pets in the cabin, the ranger assures Jon that cat can survive long without food. Jon doubts that. At the cabin, Garfield is getting hungry since he has not eaten in nearly an hour. Odie is trying to get one of the doors open, with Garfield trying to dissuade him from doing so. Garfield moves to the kitchen and examines the furniture. After a longer search, he finds a cracker. Garfield proclaims he is saved, but his joy ends when the cracker is devoured by a mouse. His stomach rumbles so loudly, that Odie mistakes it for an avalanche. Jon's pets remain trapped in the cabin without food. Time passes by and at one point, Garfield elects in vain not to think about food. Jon resorts to walking back to the cabin.

While Jon is on his way to the cabin, Garfield goes through a cook book, eating pictures of food he is craving for. Believing he is going to starve in the cabin, Garfield proceeds to write a will, which he soon aborts. By then, Odie is still at the door. Annoyed, Garfield finally opens it. Odie heads to a nearby Luigi's Drive Through Lasagna Palace, which he had apparently been trying to notify Garfield about. A euphoric Garfield races to the restaurant, only to discover that it is about to close. While slamming the window shutter, Garfield accuses Odie of knowing about the restaurant and not telling him about it.

Garfield and Odie return to the cabin after some time outdoors, the former depressed about his apparent fate. Jon, who is already back, is preparing dinner. Garfield continues to feel miserable until his late realization about Jon's presence. The cat is happy to see him until he hears that dinner is Southern Fried pig's liver with chocolate sauce. Garfield goes back to the cook book and eats more pages from it, declaring that he is not that hungry.
