Agent X (
Agent content) is the 8thUS/10thEU episode from the first season of The Garfield Show.
Synopsis[]
A secret agent known as Agent X has shown up in the neighborhood and is stealing Garfield's limelight by telling anybody who wants to listen all about his adventures. Nermal, Arlene and Harry quickly succumb to his charms, but Garfield is suspicious. Is he really a spy? Or is he nothing but talk? Could he be just another alley cat looking for five minutes' fame?
Plot[]
In the resident backyard, Garfield is telling a story to Arlene and Nermal about the time he ate an all-you-can-eat restaurant into becoming a discount shoe store. When Garfield decides to take a nap instead of telling another story, Nermal becomes annoyed and refuses to leave until Garfield yields. In response, Garfield throws Nermal over the fence and onto the top of a trashcan.
Hiding inside the trashcan is a cat, calling himself "Agent X". He claims that he is a secret agent tasked with saving all of mankind from a devious organization, all while avoiding a man in a trenchcoat, apparently part of this organization. After procuring Garfield's oblivious agreement, Nermal hides X inside the toolshed and steals him the lasagna baked for Garfield. Garfield is angered when he finds out, but allows X to stay in the shed for the night. The next morning, Garfield notices more stolen food and finds X still in the backyard. Garfield immediately becomes jealous as his friends have become enthralled with X's "secret agent" stories.
While talking to Squeak, Garfield overhears Jon talking to the man in the trenchcoat about a missing gray cat. Seeing the photo of this missing gray cat, Garfield realises it's Agent X and decides to closely follow the man in the trenchcoat back to a house. While eavesdropping, Garfield and Squeak find out that X is actually "Fluffykins", a missing house cat belonging to an old woman. In an effort to regain his popularity, Garfeld comes up with a plan to reveal X using Squeak.
Garfield returns to his friends and announces that X is a fake. Nobody believes the story, so Garfield brings up that "most famous, evil spy", Mr. Tig, (who is actually Squeak in disguise) has entered the backyard. X panics and tries to disassociate himself from his persona as Mr. Tig chases him around the backyard. Hiding up a tree, Fluffykins and Garfield strike a deal that if the former returns to his owner, Garfield won't reveal his secret. Now that Fluffykins has left, Garfield immediately regains his popularity and all is back to normal.
