Detective Odie (FRFlag Détective Odie) is the 40thUS/41stEU episode from the second season of the The Garfield Show.

Synopsis[]

Packy the packrat is visiting his cousin Squeak. Except Packy has a very strange habit: he likes to trade and swap things. When he takes Jon's wallet and swaps it for Mrs. Shmidlap's very expensive bracelet, his strange habit proves to be also very dangerous as Jon is hauled off to jail for a crime he didn't even know had taken place!

Plot[]

Early one morning, while Jon, Garfield, and Odie are still sleeping, a packrat named Packy appears in Jon's bedroom. He spots Jon's wallet on the dresser and takes it, racing downstairs, out the door, and down the street into a neighbor's house. He hops onto the neighbor's--Mrs. Shidlap's--table and notices her bracelet. Seeing it as a fair swap, he exchanges the wallet for it. Mrs. Shmidlap comes into the room and sees her bracelet missing. She panics, but then finds Jon's wallet on the floor.

Back in Jon's house, Jon and Garfield wake up and head downstairs. Odie, who was already up, asks Garfield to throw the stick. Garfield does so, if only to keep Odie occupied, and returns to his coffee, only to find out it got exchanged for a rubber ducky. Squeak approaches him, asking if he's missing something, and Squeak quickly puts the pieces together. His cousin Packy, who is visiting from down the street, has traded it. After getting some offers for the ducky, Garfield demands his coffee back from Packy, and the packrat complies. Garfield then goes to bed, only to find a vase where his bed should be. He yells for Packy, who enters the bedroom carrying the microwave. Packy knocks into Garfield, causing him to spill his coffee on himself.

Later on, a couple of detectives, Agents Frick and Frack, arrive at Jon's door. They accuse Jon of stealing Mrs. Shmidlap's bracelet, using his wallet as evidence, but Jon denies this, until he realizes that he accidentally put on said bracelet earlier that morning, mistaking it for his watch. The detectives take him away, and as they apprehend him, Odie witnesses them dragging Jon into a police car. Horrified, Odie goes to get help.

Inside, Garfield demands Packy return his bed, which he does. Garfield collapses into it as Odie runs up to him, trying to get his help. The cat, however, is not interested and takes a nap, leaving Odie to put the pieces together by himself. He racks his brain, and remembers something Jon said before getting shoved into the police car: the bracelet was on the dresser when he woke up. With this information, Odie goes upstairs and sniffs the area, catching an unfamiliar scent. He follows said scent around the house.

At the police station, the detectives are interrogating Jon, who is explaining his side of the story, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Odie is following the scent, and follows it right to Packy. Odie learns that it was Packy that stole the bracelet and a skirmish ensues. Inside, Garfield is watching the news with Squeak and sees a story about Jon's arrest. Garfield and Squeak refuse to believe Jon would do this, but wonder who would. When Odie appears with Packy dangling from his mouth, their question is answered.

The four of them hurry to the police station, where they present Packy to the detectives, Jon, and Mrs. Shmidlap. Packy offers Garfield something, and seeing this, the detectives realize that it was Packy that stole the bracelet and not Jon. They release Jon, Squeak has a heart-to-heart with his cousin, and Jon and the pets go home, and Packy offers something to the viewer for the TV remote.
