In Garfield Gets Real, the Real World is the universe the comic book characters distribute comics. It differs from the world Garfield and the other comic strip characters inhabit, most notably that characters can get hurt in the real world and cartoon physics do not work there. It is accessed by a door at the studio that connects it to Garfield’s universe. Since the cartoon world is pressurized, trips from the comic world to the real world are often one-way and cartoon characters could get stuck in the real world with no way back. The only way a character can return to the comic world is by using special machines like the Bonitanator that can act as a pathway in-between the worlds.
