Great Pizza Race ( Pizza à gogo) is the 28th^US/39th^EU episode from the second season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis

Jon cannot make dinner for Garfield because of his appointment with Liz and he does not have enough money to provide Garfield his usual truckload of takeout food. Therefore, he tells Garfield that he can only order one meal. Garfield is devastated. He settles on a delicious pizza from Vito's, but as Jon is ordering the meal for Garfield, the latter of course develops a very mischievous idea.

Plot

Jon is getting ready for his date with Liz in the evening. During the preparation, he notices that he is out of clean shorts. He takes his tape recorder and records a reminder of him needing to purchase new underwear. Jon tells Garfield about his date; since he will not be able to cook dinner tonight, he will have to order takeout. He asks Garfield what to order. Garfield soon arrives with a dozen different takeout menus demanding a ton of food from all of them. Jon tells him that he can only have one meal from one restaurant. Garfield gets shocked by this limitation, because he claims he will not make it with just one meal.

While Odie is watching TV, Garfield spots a commercial for Vito's Pizzeria. The commercial states that they deliver pizza fast and if the pizza has not arrived in twenty minutes from ordering, it is free. Garfield then tells Jon that he would like a pepperoni pizza from Vito's. Just as Jon is making the order, Garfield uses Jon's tape recorder to record Jon's voice. As Jon leaves for his date, he wonders if Liz will dine at Vito's with him. Vito makes the delivery, but he gets caught in Garfield's glue trap during the process. As a result, the delivery comes delayed, therefore the ordered pizza is given free. After Garfield eats the whole pizza by himself, he redials Vito's and repeats the trick with Jon's order over the phone.

With another delivery ordered, Garfield makes Vito late again by getting him chased by a mob of Chihuahuas. Upon the third attempt to obtain another pizza for free, Garfield accidentally plays the reminder of Jon needing to buy new underwear. He then plays the pizza order again and Vito makes the delivery. This time Garfield sets up a bunch of one-way detour signs, which cause Vito to lose orientation in the field. Vito get stuck in traffic, which once again makes him late and deliver another free pizza to Garfield. Garfield continues to extort free pizzas from Vito by intentionally causing delivery delays. Which includes taking his tires off his van, getting Vito in trouble with the Police, and ejecting him from a prepared welcome mat.

When Vito gets back to the restaurant, Jon asks for additional breadsticks. Vito sighs as he has encountered unusual amounts of bad luck. A moment later, Vito received the recording of Jon's order. Jon reminds Vito of his and Liz's breadsticks. Vito promises to provide them once he completes the delivery. While making new pizza, Vito starts to wonder how Jon could order a pizza from his house while he is physically present at the restaurant. This suspicion causes Vito to realize that he had been tricked by Garfield. Meanwhile at home, Garfield continues to make the order while surrounded by empty pizza boxes. At one moment, Garfield thinks of editing the recording to order a sausage and mushroom pizza for he is getting tired of pepperoni. Garfield then answers the door, hoping to obtain another free pizza. This time, the pizza is delivered by Jon himself, much to Garfield's shock. He and Vito show angry looks, with Garfield looking at them nervously.

Later, Garfield and Odie are at Vito's washing dishes. Garfield becomes tired and asks how long they have to work. Vito then plays a recording of Jon on the tape recorder, which tells Garfield that he and Odie cannot come home until they earn enough money to pay Vito for all the pizzas Garfield extorted from him. Garfield and Odie continue washing dishes with Garfield lamenting that he should have ordered Chinese food as Vito continuously plays the recording again.
